William W. “Bill” Witt, 93

December 27, 1931 – October 28, 2025

William W. “Bill” Witt, age 93, resident of Ripley, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Tippah County Nursing Home.  In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Witt will be cremated.

Born December 27, 1931, in Calvin, Virginia, to the late Kermit Grant and Eva Gilbert Witt, Mr. Witt received his education from the Keokee, Virginia school system, where he graduated in 1949.  He proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a shorthand specialist who traveled from country to country delivering classified correspondence.

On May 17, 1958, he married the love of his life, Mrs. Stella Gamblin Witt.  Together they built a beautiful life and home, sharing sixty-seven wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and family.  Their union was blessed with two children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren whom Mr. Witt dearly adored.

Mr. Witt was employed for over twenty years with the Sunbeam company and was known as a devoted provider, ensuring Stella could focus on caring for their home and children.  Affectionately known as “Gramps,” he was a hardworking, intelligent, and humble man.  He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, whether taking imaginary trips to Texas with Mallory, while sitting in the driveway letting her “pretend drive,” no matter the weather.

He loved woodworking, often building birdhouses with his grandchildren, and enjoyed tending his garden.  Mr. Witt was a selfless, kindhearted man who never spoke ill of others, and, in turn, no one ever had a bad word to say about him.  He loved his family deeply, and those left to cherish his memory will miss him beyond measure.

Mr. Witt is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-seven years, Stella Witt, one daughter, Tina Jarrett of Blue Springs, one son, David Wayne Witt of Ripley, one sister, Dora Beard of Colorado, one brother, Doug Witt of Indiana, three beloved grandchildren, Brandi Hopkins, Kayla Jarrett, and Mallory Jarrett, and two great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Axl Hopkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of Tippah County Nursing Home for the love, care, and kindness shown to Mr. Witt over the past four years.
