Williams affirms Ole Miss commitment at HSFN signing day special

RIDGELAND, Miss. – One of the most prized prospects on the Northeast Mississippi Community College football team announced his future home at a brand new statewide extravaganza.

Brenden Williams affirmed his commitment to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) during the High School Football Network’s (HSFN) National Signing Day Event on Wednesday, December 14 at the C Spire corporate headquarters building.

“It’s finally set in that I’m a Rebel,” said Williams. “I’m soaking in the moment and just living in it. Overall this is an enormous blessing. It just shows what hard work can do.

“I’m excited and humbled. I’m very hungry about the opportunity and just ready to get there. (Northeast) greatly equipped me with the linebacking techniques inside of me and trusted me at that position.”

Williams inked his National Letter of Intent (NLI) after recently receiving an offer from Ole Miss headman Hugh Freeze. He was tabbed as one of the top 50 recruits in the entire country and awarded three stars by Scout.

He burst onto the scene as a freshman and paced the Tigers with a team-high 89 tackles. That was the fourth most stops in the state and tied for 34th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The Birmingham, Ala., native averaged 9.9 takedowns per game, which led the MACJC and was 17th nationally. Williams compiled five double-digit tackling performances, including three straight to conclude the year.

Williams opened his lone season at Northeast with 14 tackles in a win over Pearl River Community College. He quickly became known for covering sideline to sideline and being involved in almost every play.

The 6-3, 225-pound linebacker blocked an extra point and had 13 takedowns at Southwest Mississippi Community College. He later set a career-high with 15 stops, including three tackles for loss, in a road victory against Mississippi Delta Community College.

He accumulated 36 tackles over the last three weeks of the campaign. Williams also forced a fumble versus Holmes Community College and recovered one in a triumph over Coahoma Community College.

Williams arrived in the City of Hospitality as a two-star prospect from Restoration (Ala.) Academy. He also carried offers from Bowling Green State (Ky.) University and Troy (Ala.) University.

“Brenden has a unique ability to find the football and loves to hit,” Northeast head coach Greg Davis said. “That’s a great combination. He has shown each and every day perseverance and grit. He’s what I call a competitor.”

The HSFN focuses on two-year college and prep football in the state of Mississippi. They broadcast signing day programming each December and February plus air select games throughout the fall.

Between ten-to-fifteen additional Northeast student-athletes will join Williams by signing with four-year institutions during the NCAA’s midyear transfer signing period.
