Willie Holton, 89

August 31, 1935  –  February 14, 2025

OKOLONA – A Godly lady and one of the most beautiful souls you could ever meet, Mrs. Willie Holton died Friday, February 14, 2025, at River Place Nursing Center in Amory. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Holton was a native of Winston County born on August 31, 1935 to the late Earl S. Nowell and Mary Lucinda Dovie Hisaw Nowell. She married Percy Holton, Sr. in November of 1953 and they made their home in Okolona till their deaths. Soft spoken, meek and humble, “Miss” Willie centered her life around her family, especially her role as “Ma” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught children’s Sunday School and was very active in VBS. Mrs. Holton worked many years at Okolona Drugs as well as being affiliated with the Robin’s Nest in Okolona for many years. She was skilled with her hands, painting and crocheting, was a seamstress, and loved working in her yard growing flowers and gardening and cooking for family and her countless friends. Through the years, she took pride in supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren as they competed in various athletic events, beauty pageants, and other events. She was their biggest fan and rarely missed an event. She loved Mississippi State sports. A long and fruitful life with a legacy of splendid living, learning and loving, “Miss” Willie will be missed.



A celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at First Baptist Church Okolona in Okolona, MS with Rev. Dr. Randy Lewman officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 12 PM to service time. Burial will take place at East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens. Holland Funeral Directors – Okolona Chapel is honored to serve the family.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Holton of Okolona; her grandchildren, April Bell (Curt), Chris Holton (April), and Will Holton; great-grandchildren, Kayla Wooldridge (Garrett), Brooklyn Beckham (Walker), Preston Bell, Ali Holton, Bishop Holton, Bella Kate Holton, and Barrett Holton; daughter-in-law Ginger Holton Bean (Eddie); and her sister, Ruth Ellen Gunnels of Vernon, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dovie Nowell; her husband, Percy Holton, Sr. who died in 2005; and her son, Percy Holton, Jr., who died in 1997.

Pallbearers will be Curt Bell, Preston Bell, Chris Holton, Bishop Holton, Barrett Holton and Percy (Will) Holton, III. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Rogers, Danny Holton, Darrell Holton, David Gunnels, Kevin Gunnels, Tim Posey, and Ken Eubanks.
