Willie Leroy Berry, Jr., a cherished father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at his residence in Pontotoc, MS, on September 11, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on May 24, 1962, in Pontotoc, Willie’s life was a testament to his strength and kind spirit.
Willie was a proud graduate of South Pontotoc High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships and developed a reputation for his friendly demeanor and handy nature. After graduation, he channeled his passion for building and fixing into a successful career as a self-employed construction worker. Willie’s work not only showcased his craftsmanship but also his dedication to the community, as he was always willing to lend a hand to neighbors and friends.
Willie lived his faith through his actions, treating everyone he met with respect and warmth. He was a member of New Salem M.B. Church in Pontotoc, MS. His love for the outdoors was evident, with fishing being one of his most treasured pastimes. He found solace and joy in the quiet moments by the water, often accompanied by family members who shared his love for the sport.
Predeceased by his parents, Willie Berry, Sr. and Ruby Jean Cooperwood Berry, Willie’s memory will be honored by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His absence will be deeply felt, but the stories of his friendly conversations and his skillful handiwork will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.
Willie’s legacy is carried on by his daughter, Santana Berry of Houlka, MS; his brother Bobby Jean Berry of Pontotoc, MS; his sister, Shirley A. King (Jimmy) of Pontotoc, MS; his bonus grandson, Keelan Davis; his nephews, Zachary and Malik King; a special cousin, Jimmy Cooperwood; a special friend, Tyrone Hightower; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Mt. Nebo Church Cemetery, 1221 Campground Road, Pontotoc, MS. There will be no viewing.
