New Albany finally got some of the winter weather that had been predicted for several days when heavy snow started falling Wednesday afternoon, February 25, 2015. Three to four inches of snow had accumulated by 6 p.m., and relatively little snow fell in Union County after that time. The National Weather Service radar sweeps showed that most of the snow storm had moved out of our area by 7:30 pm.
New Albany Chief of Police Chris Robertson said there had been a few minor traffic incidents including motor vehicles having slid off the roadway, but no major accidents by nightfall.
As of 8:30 Wednesday evening, Bill Mattox, general manager of New Albany Lights, Gas, and Water (LGW) said he was aware of no significant power outages due to the snow. LGW crews were standing by in case heavy snow broke tree limbs and interrupted electrical service anywhere in the city-owned system.

The United Methodist Church near downtown New Albany took on extra dignity when covered by snow.
The handsome old Union County Courthouse, completed on June 2, 1909, has been decorated with this much snow relatively few times in 106 years. Some of the scaffolding being used in the restoration of the courthouse roof and copper cupola can be seen in this picture. A grant received through the Mississippi Department of Archives and History is providing some of the money for the restoration.
Although New Albany has one of the liveliest downtown areas of any town large or small in Mississippi, there was very little traffic, pedestrian or vehicular, as the snow was falling.
The trail head plaza of Tanglefoot Trail was empty Wednesday afternoon, perhaps for the first time of any afternoon since it was opened in September
