Z. D. Rutherford, 81
May 18, 1944 – June 25, 2025
Z. D. Rutherford, 81, of Holly Springs, MS, transitioned peacefully on June 25, 2025, at Baptist DeSoto Memorial Hospital.
He was a devoted member of Greenwood M.B. Church in Lamar, Mississippi, where he served faithfully as a deacon under the leadership of Pastor Marcus Popular.
Z.D. was a proud and dedicated Transportation Specialist, retiring after 20 years of service with SCRTD (Southern California Rapid Transit District), now known as LACMTA (Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority). Following his retirement, he continued his work in the transportation industry as an Independent Freight Operator and business owner.
He is lovingly remembered by his nine children: Monica (Eric) Estep and De’Andre (Camille) Rutherford of Palmdale, CA; Gregory (Audrey) Rutherford of Las Vegas, NV; Kerry Rutherford of Phoenix, AZ; Johnea (Marlon) West of Baton Rouge, LA; Tracy Brown of Prosper, TX; Tisha Rutherford of Bakersfield, CA; Ebony Luckett of Prairieville, LA; Emma (Carl) Giles of Eight Mile, AL; Katrina (Reginald) Coleman of Mobile, AL.
He is also survived by his sister, Gertrude Washington of Baton Rouge, LA; 32 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Z.D. Rutherford’s legacy of strength, service, and love will continue to live on in all who knew and cherished him.
