Biscuits & Jam Market draws crowd on hot July day

Although the temperatures were in the 90s, ample shade allowed reasonable comfort at the July 11 Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market in down New Albany. Several hundred people shopped there between 4 and 7 pm.

The number of vendors offering locally grown fruits and vegetables seems to be larger than last year, with more vendors coming to New Albany from nearby counties.

Will Reed of Native Son Farm in Lee County had produce for sale at Biscuits & Jam Thursday afternoon.

There was musical entertainment, as usual, and with an added bonus. Becky Robinson, a storyteller from Ripley, told stories to children gathered in front of the small stage.  Ms. Robinson was introduced by Jill Smith, Director of the Union County Heritage Museum.

During the summer weeks, Biscuits & Jam Farmer’s Market is open every Thursday afternoon from 4 to 7 p.m. the popular Biscuits & Jam market is situated on the left bank of the Tallahatchie River, just below the river bridge in downtown New Albany.
