Primary Runoff Election Day polling hours

Primary Runoff Election Day is Tuesday, August 27, 2019. It is for Statewide, State District, Legislative, County, and County District Offices. Polling places open are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

Yes, election rules require all Mississippians voting at the polls are required to show a photo ID card.  The most commonly used IDs are:

Must I be registered with a particular party to vote in Primary Elections?

No. Mississippi is an open-primary state. This means voters do not need to be registered with a particular party to vote in its Primary election. However, you will be asked to select either a Democrat or a Republican ballot for the primary.

How does the Primary Run-off Election work?

In the Primary Run-off election, you must again select a particular party ballot. And, you must for the same party you voted for in the original Primary election.  Poll workers will check which party’s primary you voted in. Election rules do not allow you to “cross over” and change parties in the Run-off.

If you did not vote at all in the original Primary election, you may select a ballot for either party in the Primary Run-off election.

What happens in future elections?

In the next election cycle in Mississippi, you may start over and support either party you choose.
