Union County Courthouse to close Friday

Union County Emergency Management Director Curt Clayton announced late Thursday that the Union County Courthouse will be closed all day Friday, June 12, for deep cleaning.

Clayton said supervisors learned that a member of the public who tested positive for the coronavirus had been in the building.

Clayton did not have all the details but said he thought the person had been in either Wednesday or Thursday and to either the tax assessor-collector’s or circuit clerk’s office.

All employees continue to be found negative after testing and Clayton said this is out of caution. “We don’t have it (in the courthouse) and we don’t want it,” he said.

The courthouse and all county offices should be open again Monday as usual.

Clayton still urges caution and notes that the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases and deaths in Mississippi continues to rise.
