Work progresses on new wastewater treatment plant

Work continues on the city’s new wastewater treatment plant under construction just across the Tallahatchie River north of town. The approximately $15 million project was estimated to take a year and a half and includes new high-pressure lines running from the present plant to the new site and is being funded with a USDA grant and loan. When the new plant opens, the city will be able to remove most of the present site off Chickasaw Drive and across from the tennis complex, possibly freeing the land for other use. Officials say one pool and a pump may still have to remain.
