The Union County board approves major purchases, other business at March 7 meeting
The largest expenditures by the Union County Supervisors at their Monday, March 7, meeting were for new equipment for the solid waste department.
The board approved the low bid of Tri-State Equipment Co. for the purchase of five trucks. Tri-State’s bid was $333,590 per truck with delivery time of 400 days. Sansone Equipment submitted a bid of $335,650 for each truck.
The board also opened bids for two “Knuckle Boom Loaders.” Sansone was the low bidder for the knuckle booms. Its bid of $178,778 for each unit was unanimously accepted by the supervisors.
The county board voted to accept Cascade Engineering’s low bid of $68 each for 8,000 new garbage carts.
In other business:
- The Supervisors gave unanimous approval for New Albany Lights, Gas, and Water to provide natural gas service to an area in the eastern part of the county about 12 miles southeast of New Albany.
- The board amended the budget for bridge construction, adding $35,168.10 for a bridge on County Road 81.
- The board unanimously approved the February claims docket and the minutes of its February meetings.
- The board approved requests from the coroner for fees for 20 cases.
- The board approved pay of $400 each for the circuit clerk and each of the five election commissioners for their work on the election roles.
- The board approved $38,000 in expenditures for the county tax collector/assessor’s office for the month of February. It also accepted the assessor’s recommendation of total increases of $9,566 in assessments and a reduction of $61,619 in assessments. The collector told the board these change in assessment must be done because of errors and changes in property values.
The next meeting of the Union County Board of Supervisors will be on Monday March 21, 2022.
