Yesterday afternoon, a shooting was reported on the 500 block of Glade Ave. The report was that someone had shot into a residence where adults, children and a baby were present. There were no injuries. The assailants drove away in a brown 2006 Chevy Impala.

About an hour and a half later, NAPD made contact with two suspects in the case, Kentavious Demarion High, 18, and Janarius Alexander Harris, 19. According to law enforcement, both High and Harris were in the suspect vehicle but it appears Harris was the shooter. The people in the home were known to the assailants.

Bond was set at $25,000 each for Mr. High and Mr. Harris this afternoon. Both will be charged with drive-by shooting, a felony. A conviction of drive-by shooting in the state of Mississippi comes with a maximum prison sentence of 30 years, or a $10,000 fine, or both. High was already out on bond for a sexual battery and rape charge in Union County. Harris has no known prior offenses.

NAPD Police Chief Chris Roberson underscored that his department always pushes for the highest possible bond and the maximum charges in any crime where a firearm is discharged.
