TVA asks customers to conserve energy Tuesday evening January 16 into Wednesday morning

Message from TVA

The New Albany/Union County area will have extremely cold nights Tuesday night into Wednesday morning . The local  temperature Tuesday evening is expected to fall from 10 degrees at 7 PM to 1 degree at 5AM Wednesday morning.

TVA says their generating plants and transmission system are performing well. As the snow and bitterly cold temperatures move through the Valley, we could set an all-time record for power demand Wednesday morning. TVA is asking customers to use energy conservatively between 5PM Tuesday evening until 10 AM Wednesday morning.

Here’s how you can help conserve energy and stay warm:
-Reset thermostat to 68°.
-Close curtains and blinds to block out the cold.
-Reduce usage of nonessential lights and appliances.

  • Use small countertop appliances to cook.
  • Limit use of dishwashers, washers, dryers and  ovens during high stress hours.
  • Avoid use of space heaters and other auxiliary heaters when possible
