Tamara Waldrop Top Dawg Scholarship Fundraiser

,

“If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you to go on in spite of all. And so today I still have a dream.” These are the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., whose dreams and efforts, as well as the dreams and efforts of an entire community of civil rights and racial equality activists, made a lasting impact on American society in order to make this nation a better place not only for their generation, but for posterity.

On a more local, but no less important scale, we remember the positive influence that Tamara Waldrop had on the students of New Albany High School and the community of New Albany. During her last year as the advisor for the New Albany High School yearbook staff, Ms. Waldrop’s goal was to make the last yearbook she would work on the best one yet. She also encouraged her students to do their best in their academic careers and work diligently towards their dreams for the future. It is with this same spirit of continued growth and aspirations for a brighter future that we strive to make each school event and each school year better than the last, and we continue to edify ourselves through education and service to others.

We engage in this fundraiser event as a way of giving back, because Ms. Waldrop selflessly gave so much of her love, time, and talents to this school and this community, and strove tirelessly to help put her own daughter through college. With the money raised in this event and in future scholarship fundraiser events, we can help more parents put their sons and daughters through college, and in turn help more students achieve their hopes and dreams in years to come.     — written by Jamie Crow, Class of 2014.
