Laverne Presley, 86

July 12, 1938 — January 6, 2025

Fulton—Thelma Laverne Presley passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit at the age of 86. She was born July 12, 1938 in Nettleton, the daughter of Thomas Ellis Plunkett and Martha Worthy Hendon. Laverne attended Nettleton Schools and in 1954 she married her best friend and the love of her life, Milton Leon Presley. For 33 years she worked for Amory Garment as a seamstress until her retirement. A woman of great faith and devotion, she was a longtime member of Bigbee Baptist Church. The past twelve years of Laverne’s life were spent at The Meadows in Fulton where she made many friends of both the staff and residents. They enjoyed playing bingo and visiting. She also enjoyed various pastimes such as crossword puzzles, listening to her favorite Gospel hymns, chatting on the phone; however, her greatest joy came from her cherished moments with family, especially her grandbabies.



Laverne leaves behind her daughter, Patti Presley Williams and husband, Donnie Michael Williams of Peppertown; daughter-in-law, Maria Cayson Presley of Tupelo; grandchildren, Nicole Presley Enis and husband, Mark of Tupelo, Drew Presley Wheeler and wife, Brandee, of New Albany, and Laura Beth Williams of Mooreville; great-grandchildren, Max and Miles Enis of Tupelo, Finley and Presley Wheeler of New Albany; sister and best friend, Eddielene Parker of Nettleton and family and Mildred Cox and her family of Illinois; and brother, Mike Plunkett and wife, Rita and their families of Amory;.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Martha Worthy Hendon and her husband, Wesley; father, Ellis Plunket and wife, Beatrice; her husband Milton Presley; her son, Ricky “Rick” Leon Presley; sisters, Paulette Nix and Faye Boyd; and a brother, Junior Plunkett.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Justin Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Drew Wheeler, Mark Enis, Max Enis, Miles Enis, and Eli Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and friends at The Meadows.
