Annis Mae Blackful, 87

June 21, 1938 – September 9, 2025

On September 9, 2025, Annis Mae Blackful, departed this life to live eternally with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.   She was born on June 21, 1938, to Virgil Lee and Perk Forster in Lee County, Mississippi.



A former student of Plantersville Colored High School where she met the love of her life, John Henry Blackful. They were married on May 3, 1953, and he preceded her in death in 1993. From that marriage, three children were born: Joyal Fayette Chapman, Wanda Wyvette Ruff (Daniel Ruff), and Craig Barnell ( Gwen) Blackful.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her dear sister, Nellie Mae Word. She was known by many as a person of love and compassion.  She poured out to her family and others in the community and church.

God called Elder Annis Mae Blackful into the ministry in 1967, and from that time her work in the ministry grew, and she became a mighty Woman of God, preaching, teaching, and leading souls into the Kingdom of God.  She received her Ministerial Credentials from Revelation Bible College of Jackson, Florida.

Elder Annis M. Blackful, enjoyed on her life journey, included traveling and performing in Christian plays. She was best known for the play written by Apostle Linda Walker of Truth Trinity Church “A Blessing in the Storm” which she played the character and is known today by some as (Mother Bird). She was a faithful servant of God in all the Tupelo metropolitan area.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three children, seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one brother, Ledentry Forster (Mary E. Forester) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Cannot go without including her son by another mom (her sister), our cousin/brother LeAnder Word (Lanice Lauderdale Word).
