Gene Loden, 84

Saltillo—Victor Gene Loden passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the Sanctuary Hospice House. He was 84 years old. Gene was born April 7, 1940, to Fred and Leslie Loden of Mooreville. He was a graduate of Mooreville High School and Itawamba Community College and also attended Mississippi State University. A man of many skills and talents, he was a lifelong cattle farmer and an engineering technician for the Mississippi Department of Transportation until he retired after 30 years of service. Gene had a deep abiding faith and was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ for nearly 70 years. His devotion was lived out as a dedicated member of Dorsey Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He will be remembered as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was a master story teller with booming voice and lively sense of humor. Gene lived his life by the motto that loving God required loving his neighbor, and he was a good neighbor to many in the Mooreville and Dorsey Communities throughout his life.
Gene leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Mary Alice Sumners Loden; his son, Jon Keith Loden of Saltillo; his daughter, Kim Loden Cappleman and her husband, Chris; and two granddaughters, Beth and Megan Cappleman, all of Saltillo; a sister-in-law, Libby Stafford of Cyrstal Springs; a brother-in-law, Ray Christian of Mooreville; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Lane Loden; four brothers, Nim Roy Loden, James Gregory Loden, Ben Loden, and Bill Loden; his twin sister, Vivian Jane Christian and his parents, Fred and Leslie Loden.
Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025 at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring Gene’s memory will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Dorsey Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Rushing and Rev. Gary Gray officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Dorsey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Cappleman, Scotty Christian, Randy Christian, Bill Delk, Kenneth Loden, and Kyle “Boomer” Woods.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dorsey Baptist Church.
