Jamie Tate, 83
October 27, 1941 – March 3, 2025
Jamie Denton Tate, known affectionately as Jamie to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, at Sanctuary Hospice House at the age of 83. Born on October 27, 1941, Jamie was the daughter of the late James Curry “Jake” Denton and Opal Thompson. Her warm presence and gentle spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Ingomar Class of 1960, Jamie maintained a special bond with her classmates throughout her life. Her commitment to her work was evident in the various roles she undertook over the years. Jamie’s career included positions at Irwin B. Schwabe and Landau, culminating in her retirement following many years of dedicated service at Ingomar School Cafeteria. Her work ethic and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on her colleagues and the many students she served.
Jamie’s life was a testament to her loving nature. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Dr. Chris Tate, and her brother, Jimmy Wayne Denton. She was a beacon of love and stability for her family, and her absence will be deeply felt. Jamie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Vaughn Tate; her parents; her sisters, Fannie Furniss and Linda Murrah; and her brothers, Jimmy Doyle Denton and Robert Denton.
An avid fan of Ingomar Basketball, Jamie could be found cheering on the team at every game alongside her daughter, sharing in the thrill of the sport they both loved. Her interests extended to the beauty of nature, as she found joy in tending to her flower gardens and expressed her creativity through her sewing. Jamie’s talents and hobbies were a reflection of her kind and gentle soul.
Jamie’s faith played a central role in her life. As a dedicated member of Ingomar Baptist Church, she cherished the fellowship of her Sunday School friends and took great pleasure in serving others, particularly through the Wednesday Night Outreach Meals. Her love for her church community was matched only by the love she held for her family. Jamie’s special bond with her daughter, Chris, was at the heart of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with her nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Jamie will remember her as a loving, kind, and gentle woman. Services will be held at Ingomar Baptist Church, Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 11: AM, with Dr. Terry Cutrer officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, also at Ingomar Baptist Church.
