Lola D. Windham Hurt, 98

February 8, 1927 – March 13, 2025

“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:29-31

On Thursday Evening, March 13, 2025, Mrs. Lola D. Windham Hurt, 98, departed this life peacefully at the Dogwood Health and Rehab in New Albany, MS, with family faithfully by her side.

Services honoring the well lived life of Mrs. Lola will be at 3 PM Sunday March 16, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with Brian Williams sharing remarks and Bro. Randy Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM until time of service on Sunday March 16, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Tippah Memorial Gardens with no graveside service.

Born February 8, 1927, in the People’s Community of Tippah County, Mrs. Lola was one of eight children born to the late Oscar and Elmer Holley Windham. She was a graduate of People’s School, where she was Valedictorian of her class, and on November 3, 1945, married her beloved husband, Mr. Ausbin Henry Hurt. A faithful wife, wonderful mother, and dedicated homemaker, Mrs. Lola took great pride in her home, always keeping things tidy, working in her yard, producing beautiful flowers yearly, and devoting her time to her family, instilling in her daughters good Christian values. Once Sheila and Brenda became older, Mrs. Lola was employed with Blue Bell, before owning and operating L & L Drapery Shop for twenty years, serving as an extraordinaire seamstress to her community, with her dear friend, Mrs. Lessie Childs by her side.

A Christian and member of Springdale Baptist Church, Mrs. Lola was a Proverbs 31 lady, always holding fast to her beliefs, devouring God’s word daily, and inspiring others to live a life fully dedicated to him. Her favorite pastimes included shopping, traveling, and above all, being around family. She never believed you could spend too much time with those you love. Her family meant more to her than anything in this world, as it was something she often mentioned. Known as “Gran” to her grand and great grandchildren, she was unendingly proud of them all, always rooting for them, praying for them, loving them, and supporting them. Even during their days of goodbyes, her daughters mentioned sitting and holding her hand, as it would give her comfort knowing they were there.

Although we feel great heart ache today and our lives will never be the same, we put all our trust in the Lord. We hold faithful to him and his promise, as he answered our prayers healing Mrs. Lola and blessing us with ninety-eight wonderful years, with her love shaping who we are, and enriching our lives forever. We know there’s a great reunion in Heaven and find comfort knowing when the day comes Mrs. Lola will be there waiting for us, sitting at the feet of our Savior, Jesus Christ. What a glorious day that will be.

Those left to cherish her memories include two daughters, Sheila Simpson (Coleman) and Brenda Ward (Harry). five grandchildren, Kristy Williams (Brian), Emily Griffin (Jason), Brian Ward (Candice), Michael Ward (Anna) and Paul Ward (Tiffany), fourteen great grandchildren, Wesley, Tyler, Anna Paige, Alley, Madeline, Olivia, Lola Grace, Hayes, Ridge, Kruz, Dautry, Lucie, Vivi, and Noah, one great great grandchild, and one brother, Joe Windham.

In addition to her husband, Mr. Ausbin, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Moffitt, and Rachel Gattis, and four brothers, Robert, Leland, Ardie, and Wayne Windham.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Brian Williams, Jason Griffin, Brian Ward, Michael Ward, Paul Ward, and Jerry Windham.

Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of Dogwood Health and Rehab. Their dedication, unwavering love, and care shown to Mrs. Lola and them during this time is greatly appreciated.
