Nancy Carson, 86

May 28, 1938 – March 16, 2025

Nancy Jo Cook Carson, affectionately known as Nancy to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at Church Street Manor in Ecru, Mississippi. Born on May 28, 1938, in Chickasaw County, MS, Nancy’s life was a tapestry of love, service, and creativity that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Nancy’s early years were spent in the nurturing environment of her hometown, where she graduated from Houston High School in 1956. Her academic achievements were just the beginning of a life characterized by dedication and hard work. Nancy’s professional journey was marked by over three decades of commitment as the Human Resources Director for Piper Impact. After her retirement from Piper Impact, she continued to share her talents with the community during her 11-year tenure at Wal-Mart.

Her work ethic was matched only by her devotion to her family. Nancy was a loving mother to her daughters, Darnell Wise (Mike) and Karen Young, and her son, Mike Carson (Melody). She found joy in the company of her grandchildren—Cody Carson, Kasey Carson, Markus Wise (Christy), Laura Beth Mathis (Matt), Kristin Foster (Brock), Natalie Douglas (Max), and Eli Young. Nancy’s legacy continued to flourish through her seven great-grandchildren—Kari, Erin, Myka, Carter, Carson, Ella, and Beckham—who will remember her for her warmth and kindness.

Nancy was a cherished sister-in-law to Charlotte Cook Ward and Gerald Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Carson, her son, Michael Anderson, her parents, Martin Troy Cook and Cora Eileen McCluney Cook, her brother, Mack Cook, and her sisters, Jeannie Johnson and Peggy Sue Cook.

A woman of faith, Nancy was an active member of the First Methodist Church of New Albany. Her involvement in the Wardie Harwell Circle, the Marjorie Houston Sunday School Class, and the Rev. Jill Shaw’s Bible Study Class reflected her commitment to her spiritual growth and her community. Nancy’s leadership skills shone brightly as she served as Past President of both the New Albany Lioness Club and the New Albany Pilot Club. Her volunteer work with the Ladies Auxiliary at Baptist Memorial Hospital was a testament to her generous spirit.

Nancy’s zest for life was evident in her hobbies and interests. As a Dale Carnegie graduate, she relished the opportunity to assist with many classes alongside other leaders. Her passion for square dancing was fulfilled as a member of the Union Squares square dancing club. Nancy’s creative side was beautifully expressed through her love of crochet, crafting countless items for her friends and family that will be cherished for generations.

Those who knew Nancy will remember her as a loving, kind, and creative soul. Her ability to light up a room with her presence and to inspire others with her actions will be deeply missed. Nancy’s life was a reflection of her values, and her impact on the world will continue to be felt through the lives of those she touched.
