Russ Griechen, 97

March 24, 1928  –  April 7, 2025

Auburn-Russell Edsel “Russ” Griechen, age 97, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, in Tupelo, Mississippi. Born on March 24, 1928, in Norwood, Missouri, Russ lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and craftsmanship.



A master carpenter by trade, Russ dedicated his career to building not only structures but also a legacy of hard work and integrity. His hands shaped countless homes and projects over the years, each one a testament to his skill and dedication. Beyond his profession, Russ was known for his generous spirit—he was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. His kindness extended to all who knew him, and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand.

Russ was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life and provided him with strength and purpose. He found great joy in serving others through his church community and lived out his beliefs with humility and compassion.

He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Rausch Griechen; their children: Raymond Griechen, Connie Wiederaenders, Kenneth Griechen, Micheal Griechen, Delilah High & Joseph Archibald (s); Darrin Griechen; and DeAnna Griechen. Russ was also blessed with ten grandchildren—and twelve great-grandchildren with a thirteenth expected in May. He is also remembered by four nephews and one great-nephew.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, two sisters, and one son.

A memorial gathering to honor Russ’s life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 805 S. Thomas in Tupelo, Mississippi. The family will receive friends after the service until 2 PM. Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo is honored to be serving their friends. (662 840 5000).
