Sara London, 93
October 21, 1931 – May 22, 2025
Tupelo- Sara Kincannon Rogers London realized the promises of her faith and met her Creator from Rosewood Assisted Living on Thursday, May 22, 2025. She was 93 years old. A lady who made life fun, positive and perpetual motion, Sara was born into pioneer Lee County families in Tupelo on October 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Osborne Britt Rogers, Sr. and Mary Lou Oates Rogers. She graduated from Tupelo High School in 1949 and attended the University of Mississippi where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. Always a motivator, Sara had an interesting and accomplished life which included working at First Citizens National Bank, Bank of Mississippi (Cadence now), being general manager of the old Tupelo Mall in its heyday, and the one she loved most, being a trainer and events coordinator for many years for McRae’s Department Store. Always dressed to the 9’s herself, she enjoyed hosting fashion shows with her “Mac” models. Sara was always devoted to her hometown of Tupelo and was active in many organizations over the years. In the 1970s, she was a member of CDF and Tupelo Clean and Beautiful Committee. In 1977, she was president of the Lee County Heart Association, Sara was named the 1981 “Woman of Achievement” by the Tupelo Business and Professional Women’s Club. She volunteered her time in later years to Sanctuary Hospice House. Family was everything to Sara. She enjoyed lounging in the lake house gazebo and watching her family play on the water. She loved hats and she wore appropriate hats with her outfits on her many vacations and Cruise ship excursions. A longtime devoted member of Parkway Baptist Church, she cherished her Sunday school class. She also attended Harrisburg Baptist Church where she made many friends.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with her former pastors, Dr. Chuck Hampton and Dr. Paul Brazier officiating. Private burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be from Noon-service time on Tuesday only at the funeral home. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Live-streaming at 2 PM Tuesday, and will be archived thereafter.
Sara is survived by her son, Robert Britt Whitten (Janice) of Tupelo and grandchildren by marriage, and daughter, Gena Whitten Tarpley (Steve) of Guntown; grandchildren, Brooke Marlar (Brad) of Farmington, and Blake Fleming (Chris) of Saltillo; great-grandchildren, Maddi Marlar, Aubrey Marlar, Carter Daniel, Millie Daniel, Lily Fleming, Liza Fleming, Lexi Fleming, Livi Fleming; sister-in-law Linda Rogers, and brother-in-law Larry London (Theresa); nephews, Mart Klindworth, Fant Klindworth (Jackie), Scott Rogers (Stephanie), and nieces, Carol Klindworth, Teresa Hatcher (Steven), Jan Lawrence; and her children by marriage, Dan London (Karen), Jack London (Donita), Virginia Bartolodo (Thomas), and Eric London (Christina).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gus London; her parents, Osborn Britt Rogers, Sr. and Mary Lou Oates Rogers; brother Britt Rogers and sister Mary Lou (Sug) Klindworth; great-grandchild, Rylee Mae Marlar; niece, Rosemary Klindworth. She had many close friends that preceded her in death that she missed dearly and would tell stories about from childhood, days at Ole Miss, her church family, and throughout her working career.
