March 4, 1958 – May 29, 2025
Mr. Curtis Wayne Gates, Jr. was born March 4, 1958 to the late Curtis Gates and Geraldine Terrell Gates. He transitioned Thursday, May 29, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS surrounded by loved ones.
He attended Pontotoc Schools and worked in maintenance and landscaping. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, as well as family and friends. He was a huge fan of sports, especially the Lakers and Tennessee. Even in his latter days, he loved to play a game or two to show the young generation he still had it. If you knew Curtis you knew he loved to make him a good ‘ol pitcher of orange Kool-Aid. Curtis was known as a loving and kind person who did not meet any strangers. His warm spirit will be dearly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Lonnie Wayne Lipsey, Curtis Josel Lipsey, Persauna Cullens, Christian Deion Wells, and D’Elegance Artasia Harris; grandchildren, Alonah Elivia Lipsey, Gavin Lee Golden, Goddesi Lipsey, Amiyah Cullens, Zamariya Cullens, Lyric Cullens, Skylar Grace Brown, and Kambriel Marlei Smith; two sisters, Estelle Gates (Billy Speed) and Katherine Gates; one brother, Terry Gates; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He also leaves to cherish a special friend, Melissa Roberson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Gates and Geraldine Terrell Gates; three sisters, Martha Gates King, Doris Gates, and Irene Lindsey.
Viewing will be Friday, June 6, 2025, from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Payton Mortuary. Funeral service will be Friday, June 6, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Payton Mortuary.
