Katylee Anderson, 61
July 19, 1963 – June 10, 2025
OKOLONA – Katylee Anderson rode into the sunset after her last roundup at Baptist Hospital-Memphis on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 after a period of declining health She was 61 years old. Born on July 19, 1963 into the pioneer Chickasaw County family of Andersons, she was the daughter of Charles Anderson, II, and Mary Wooldridge Anderson. Raised on the vast Anderson cattle and farming operation, Katylee developed a grand appreciation of cattle, horses and all God’s creation at an early age. She loved helping tend the family lands, participate with her favorite horse in cattle roundups, and be a regular cow girl, which she took much pride in. Katylee graduated from Chickasaw Academy where she played basketball. She later attended Northwest Community College and Mississippi State, where she became a lifelong fan of the Bulldogs. Always the life of the party, she was the perfect hostess drawing friends and strangers to her gatherings with full aplomb of knowing how to make people feel good. She was known to “shake a little ice” from time to time. But her overarching love in life were her two sons, Clay Taylor Nelson and Jake Nelson. She showered them like a “mother hen” and felt strongly about their wellbeing. A full-fledged “country girl” with much sophistication who loved rodeos, horse shows and musical concerts, she never met a stranger and could hang with the best of them. Her favorite sayings were “Ride ‘em till she bucks” and “this too shall pass”. It did and she now resides in that happy hunting ground!!
Family and friends will gather at 7 AM Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the Anderson Ancestral Family Cemetery long known as “The Holy Land” where her life will be celebrated and honored, followed by a reception afterwards under the towering oaks at The Holy Land.
