The First Methodist Church women will host the second annual Christmas in July Tablescapes Luncheon on July 19, at the church from 11:00 to 12:00. The purpose of the event is to raise money for the Christmas Store, which will see its 26th year of providing assistance to Union County families who need help providing gifts for their children.

Tickets are limited, so get yours now.

Tickets are required for this fund-raising event, and can only be bought via Eventbrite. The Eventbrite site says tickets are going fast. The site will close when all tickets are sold. See the Eventbrite link below, which will lead you through the process.

If you cannot attend but would like to make a donation, you can do that on this site also.  If you need help with the purchase, please go to the First Methodist Church office and the girls there will help you.

The doors will open on Saturday, July 19,  at 10:30. There will be a silent auction and time to view the tables and vote on your favorite table.  Voting consists of making donations in jars on the tables. You can vote as often as you like. The table with most money will “win”.  At 11:00 there will be a speaker and a luncheon.  The event will be over at 12:00.

More about the Christmas Store

Over 25 years ago, Jennifer (J.J.) Harris had the idea for a First Methodist Church community outreach program to help local families provide gifts to their children at Christmas. Out of her idea, the Christmas store was born.

For two days in early December, those whose applications have been accepted will be invited to come and “shop” for toys for their children. Shoppers only need to bring with them the invitation they receive once their application is accepted.

In addition to families who apply, the Christmas Store also serves the 50-60 children in custody of the Child Protection Services during the holiday season.

Before the store opens for shoppers, the Christmas Store workers know who is coming each day and how many children they will be shopping for. The store has served as many as 600 Union County children, but numbers typically run in the 300s. The children served range from a few weeks of age to about 5th grade level.

The shoppers take their selections home to be wrapped and given to their kids according to their own holiday traditions.

Over the years, support for perpetuation of The Christmas Store has centered upon First Methodist Church. Much of the labor pool comes from church members and staff, and the merchandise is stored at the church as it is purchased throughout the year. However, the Christmas Store is not a church budget item.
