Nathan Shane Brooks, 52

November 17, 1973 – December 26, 2025

“A good man leaves behind more than memories; he leaves a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love that lives on in every heart he touched.”

Nathan Shane Brooks, known best as Shane to all those who knew and loved him, departed this earthly life and entered into the presence of his loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday evening, December 26, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch. He passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family—just as he lived, with those he treasured most close by his side.

Services honoring Shane’s well-lived legacy will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home, with Bro. Paul Adams officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 PM until 8 PM at Ripley Funeral Home, and will continue Tuesday morning from 9 AM until time of service.

Born on November 17, 1973, in Ripley, Mississippi, Shane was the son of Mrs. Thelma Griggs Brooks and the late James A. Brooks. He received his education from Walnut High School before beginning a lifelong career that brought him not only success, but countless friendships along the way. Working faithfully with Brooks Drywall and Towing, Shane earned the trust of customers and neighbors alike, not by position or title, but by the integrity of who he was. Along that journey, he met the love of his life, Michelle Cox Brooks, and on July 13, 2023, the two were united in marriage—a day he always considered the greatest blessing God ever gave him.

A proud Christian and member of Canaan Baptist Church, Shane lived his faith quietly but sincerely in the way he treated others. He also lived a life of service, giving of his time and heart as a lifelong member of the Benton County Fire Department. Whether on a call or simply lending a hand in the community, Shane showed up—with grit, loyalty, and the willingness to help at a moment’s notice. That was who he was. He was the kind of person everyone loved, and no one disliked. His personality was second to none—kindhearted, dependable, humorous, and always eager to make someone laugh or feel seen. If Shane gave you his word, you could set your watch by it. His handshake was a contract, and his loyalty was unwavering.

Shane found joy in the things that gave life excitement and meaning—riding motorcycles with the wind at his back, watching drag races, and spending time with the people he adored. But above every hobby, every road, and every good time shared, family remained the center of his world. He cherished his role as a loving husband, worked hard to be the best daddy around, wore the title “Papaw” with pride, and excelled as a devoted son, brother, and friend. He was even an exceptional son-in-law—especially on the days when a fresh chocolate pie made its way to his plate.

There are not enough words to fully capture who Shane Brooks was. The truth is simple: he was just a good fellow—one of the best. His absence leaves an ache that words cannot ease, but we do not grieve as those with no hope. We know exactly where Shane is today. He is healed, whole, and home—and we look forward to the day we are reunited with him once more.

Until then, Shane… we will miss you deeply, love you always, and carry your memory with the same strength, loyalty, and kindness you gave us. This is not goodbye—just “see you later.”

In addition to his wife, Michelle, and mother, Mrs. Thelma, memories will continue to be cherished by one daughter, Holly Brooks, one step daughter, Daleanna Akers (Conner Tucker), one son, James Brooks (Sydney), two stepsons, Ryan Russell (Kassidy), and Blake Wilbanks, one brother, James Kevin Brooks, and five grandchildren, Emma Jean Brooks, Grayson James Brooks, Lankston Russell, Zayden Tucker, and Kohen Tucker, along with his large gang of biker buddies, and wide circle of family and friends who loved him dearly.

Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memories with Shane’s family.
