Joseph Edward Shalley, Jr., 73

April 16, 1952 – February 1, 2026

Joseph Edward Shalley, Jr., age 73, departed this earthly life on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Ripley, Mississippi.

In accordance with Mr. Joe’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no formal services are scheduled at this time.

Born on April 16, 1952, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Joe was the son of the late Joseph Edward Shalley, Sr. and Marian Shalley. He later graduated from Sarasota High School and went on to devote his life to the open road. Truck driving was never just a job for Joe — it was who he was. The hum of a diesel engine and the miles stretching ahead of him brought a sense of freedom few truly understand. He turned his passion into his profession, spending countless hours behind the wheel doing what he loved most.

True to his life on the highway, Joe also had a deep appreciation for his ham radio. Whether parked for the night or rolling down the interstate, he enjoyed calling out to his buddies, swapping stories, and connecting with voices from across the country and around the world. The radio waves kept him company and allowed him to maintain friendships that stretched far beyond state lines.

Joe was a simple man with straightforward tastes. He enjoyed meat and potatoes, fast food on the go, greasy burgers, and anything powered by a big motor. Big engines and the roar of horsepower first sparked his love for trucking and never failed to catch his attention. He appreciated life without complication — good food, big engines, and the steady rhythm of the road.

Though he was known to keep to himself, Joe valued his friendships deeply. He preferred a small circle, but those within it knew his loyalty and quiet heart. He lived life on his own terms, steady and independent, yet connected to a wide world through the road and the radio.

He will be remembered for his love of driving, his unmistakable passion for big rigs and big motors, and the simple, honest way he chose to live his life.

Those left to cherish memories include his three daughters, Melanie Tschannen, Christie Shalley, and Sarah Smith (Chad), one son, Joseph “Joe” Shalley (Nicole), ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, along with his circle of trucker buddies, and extended family.
