Elder Samie Lloyd Staples, 81

February 8, 1945 – March 20, 2026

Elder Samie Lloyd Staples was born on February 8, 1945, to the late Irene Westmoreland Staples and J.C. Staples. Elder Staples was a man of strength, kindness, and quiet wisdom. He lived a life rooted in love for his family, deep respect for his community, and a tireless work ethic that inspired everyone around him. He was a giver, always willing to help others, and his generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a graduate of Belden High School. He later became a master carpenter and the owner of Sammie Staples LLC. He was known for his dedication, humility, and integrity, always believing in doing things the right way and with heart.



He received the Holy Ghost in 1982. Elder Staples loved the church and was a faithful member of Wilson Chapel Church of the Living God, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and assistant pastor. His faith was an important part of his life and was reflected in the way he served, loved, and carried himself each day.

He was united in holy matrimony to Annie Lee Fields on April 11, 1966. To this union, five children were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Westmoreland Staples and J.C. Staples; his brothers, Charles Staples and Carnell Staples; his sister, Minnie Stone; his granddaughter, Jessica Pannell; his great-grandsons, Ace Pannell and Chosen Barry; and his godson, Theodis Gray.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Annie Lee Staples of Verona, Mississippi; his children, Bernice Staples of Shannon, Mississippi; Chandra Pannell (Orlando) of Tupelo, Mississippi; Tawana Agnew (William) of Baldwyn, Mississippi; Cassandra Jackson (Jeffrey) of Aberdeen, Mississippi; and Samuel Staples of Plantersville, Mississippi; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Martin; one brother, Floyd Staples; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

He also shared a special bond with his oldest granddaughter, Praylar Shells (Jamison) of Shannon, Mississippi, whom he loved as a daughter.
