Cathalene “Cathy” Heleane Mills Watson, 74
September 4, 1951 – April 11, 2026
Cathalene Heleane Mills Watson, affectionately known as Cathy, age 74, departed this earthly life on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at her daughter’s residence in Hickory Flat.
In honoring her wishes, Cathy will be cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.
Born on September 4, 1951, in Virginia, Cathy was the daughter of the late Robert Mills and Arlene Higgins. After receiving her education, she set out with a determined spirit to make her own way in life. A woman unafraid of hard work, Cathy spent her career as a welder—a trade she took pride in—where she found purpose in working with her hands and shaping something lasting from raw metal.
Cathy was known for her strong will, her independence, and her unmistakable honesty. She was the kind of person who told things just as they were, and those who knew her always knew exactly where they stood. Life was not always easy for Cathy, and she quietly carried personal struggles, including battles with mental health, that shaped much of her journey.
Despite the hardships she faced, there were moments that reflected a softer side—especially in her later days, where glimpses of tenderness, care, and reflection could be seen. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, particularly her love for horses, square dancing, and doing the things that brought her peace and happiness.
Cathy’s life was one marked by resilience. While imperfect—as all lives are—hers tells a story of perseverance, strength, and a determination to keep going, no matter the circumstances. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, independence, and the reminder that every life carries both struggle and grace.
Survivor includes her daughters, Monica Baker and Amanda Scofield, sons, James Dyer, and Robert Smith, one sister, Teresa Collins, grandchildren, Brandy Watowa, Heather Akin, Dylan Stephens, Raymond Barnes Jr, Tyler Barnes, Timber Vincent, Hunter Vincent, Brianna Scofield, Kaleb Scofield, Casey Scofield, Chase Dyer, Robert Smith, Jordan Smith, and Ivvy Smith, and six great grandchildren.
