The public is invited to an America250 Butterfly Release on Saturday, May 2, 1:30 p.m. at the Faulkner Garden in New Albany.  The New Albany Garden Club will host the release that celebrates the American anniversary along with the Union County Heritage Museum.

New Albany student Ellis Hardin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hardin,  will recite the famous poem The Ride of Paul Revere as part of the event.  The ride took place in April 1775 as the fate of the nation was riding that night.

The poem, written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,  details the famous patriot’s ride to warn the colonists about the invasion of the British Troops before the Battles of Lexington and Concord using the iconic signal “One if by land, two if by sea” from the Old North Church.

The poem has become a powerful and enduring symbol of American patriotism and signaled  the start of the Revolutionary War.

The public is invited to join the event and release a butterfly.

The museum and garden are located at 114 Cleveland St, New Albany, MS. For more information call the museum at 662-538-0014 or email uchm@ucheritagemuseum.com
