George Wilder Lax, 77
December 22, 1948 – May 4, 2026
Mr. George Wilder Lax, age 77, of Byhalia, transitioned peacefully at his residence on Monday, May 4, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful servant of God, and cherished friend, George lived a life marked by kindness, hard work, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
George was born to the late Billy Lax and Hellen Brown Lax. He was a hardworking and dedicated truck driver who faithfully worked for LP Brown for many years. Through his strong work ethic and humble spirit, he earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
A man of deep faith, George was a devoted member and former deacon of CrossPointe Church, where he faithfully served his church family and community. His gentle spirit, words of wisdom, and servant’s heart touched countless lives throughout the years.
George found joy in the simple blessings of life. He loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening, and making memories while traveling to the Great Smoky Mountains. Above all, he treasured the time spent with his family, who were the center of his world.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife, Beverly Lax of Byhalia, MS; three sons, Drew Echols of Cordova, William “Mark” Lax (Michelle) of Holly Springs, and Brian Echols (Sabrina) of Hernando; one brother, Gene Lax (Phyllis) of Middleton; and one sister, Mildred Webb of Millington.
He also leaves behind eleven beloved grandchildren: Joseph Smith, Jennifer Roberts (Mark), Maverick Echols (Alexis), Mason Echols (Bailee), Will Lax, Abby Lax, Ethan Lax (Joniqua), Eric Lax, Nicholas Lax (Destiny), Melanie Looney (Steven), and Brady Echols (Jadah); along with six treasured great-grandchildren: Bella, Brooklyn, Cora, Camilla, Oaklynn, and NJ, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Lax and Hellen Brown Lax; his daughter, Vicki Smith; and his brother-in-law, Joe Webb.
Though he will be deeply missed, George’s legacy of love, faith, compassion, and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His life was a true reflection of strength, humility, and grace.
