Union Co. Supervisors award scholarship, hold public hearing re: property clean-up (May 18, 2026)

1. BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
a) At their second monthly meeting for May 2026, the Supervisors began the meeting by awarding the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Scholarship to Ingomar School’s William “Walker” Robbins. Eligible applicants for the scholarship must be sponsored by an active or retired county employee (not an elected official), in addition to meeting other requirements.
b) The owners of property in need of clean-up, discussed at the April 6, 2026 meeting, appeared before the Supervisors. They apologized for the undesirable conditions at the location, and stated that work is underway to clean the property. The Supervisors voted to take no further action, as the problem is being taken care of the owners.
c) The 2023 Audit costs were approved.
d) The property was declared to be surplus and Clay Meeks’ contract was approved for the May 30, 2026 auction.
e) The General Fund Budget was amended as requested.
f) Approval was given for the requested proof of publication of notices regarding human environmental impact and release of funds for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)(published on May 6, 2026).
g) The Board President was approved to sign CDBG-related forms required to be mailed and submitted to MDA by May 31, 2026.
h) (9:10) Approval was given for all requested employees to attend MAS Convention and training.
i) (9:40) Board discussed bids for the sale of a 2002 Chevy 2500 pickup previously declared surplus property. One bid was received for $5250 and another for $4600. The high bid was accepted.
2. CHANCERY CLERK (12:15)
a) The Budget Comparison report was approved.
b) Payment of $579 was approved for the Chancery Clerk reviewing and submitting Homestead Exemptions (at $1 a piece).
3. EMA (13:44) The Mutual Aid Compact was approved.
4. INVENTORY CLERK (15:05) Deletion of mobile pug mill was approved.
5. MEDICAL EXAMINER FEES (15.27) Payment of Coroner invoices was approved.
6. ROAD DEPARTMENT (15:59)
a) Payroll authorization for Bobby Bullock was approved.
b) Bradley Medlin was approved as road worker.
c) A longevity pay increase for Christopher Madonna was approved.
7. SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT (17:20)
a) Approval expenses for investigators Adam Fitts and Justin Gregory to attend a conference in Biloxi ($300).
b) Approved travel expenses for Deputy Sergeant Chase Rogers for SFST Instructor School in Hattiesburg.
8. CIRCUIT CLERK (19:50)
*An agenda item was added for the Circuit Clerk that do not appear on the written agenda.
a) The board approved payment for work on grand juries.
9. TAX ASSESSOR/COLLECTOR (20:43)
a) The April Surrendered Tag List was approved.
b) The purchase of four computers for the Assessor’s Office was discussed and approved. Two bids were submitted. CDWG bid $9184, Dell Technologies bid $8053. The low bid was accepted.
