Ken “Pop” Robinson, 81
September 11, 1944 – May 30, 2026
Tupelo – Ken “Pop” Robinson, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 30, 2026 at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born on Monday, September 11, 1944, to Paul B. Robinson and Omie Mize Robinson, of Nettleton, Mississippi.
Ken graduated from Nettleton High School in 1964 and went on to join the Army in August of 1965. He served, honorably, during the Vietnam conflict, until his discharge in June of 1967. During his time in service, he earned the rank of Corporal E-4 and was awarded several commendations including the prestigious Purple Heart.
After his time in the Army, Ken went on to work at Penn Tire (now Goodyear Commercial Tire) for a little over 12 years, and then later went on to work in the energy conservation department for TVA. After 25 years of dedicated service, Ken retired, but soon discovered that he was not ready to fully step away from work. He returned to the workforce, continuing to enjoy the sense of purpose and fulfillment that working provided. He then went on to work in maintenance at West Jackson Street Baptist Church, serving the church and others, until fully retiring in 2014.
His favorite role in life that he truly enjoyed most was being “Pop” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family deeply and always pointed them to Jesus. As a faithful and devoted member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church, he served as Deacon, was on various committees, and went on many mission trips with the church. He was most proud of his service in the preschool department, teaching over fifty years, alongside his wife. He found great joy in seeing the children’s faces light up as they learned about Jesus.
Ken’s hobbies included camping, traveling with his wife, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed making wooden gum ball machines and wooden basketball goals for the preschool children that he and his wife taught. He was always known to be working on a project for his family or church members.
Ken is survived by his two daughters, Kathy Giles (Chris) of Talladega, Alabama, and Christy Barron (Terry) of Tupelo; brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas Creely, Sr. (Joyce), of Newport, Rhode Island, and Smyrna, Georgia; five grandchildren, Morgan Lundebo (Solomon) of Tupelo, Lindsey Meeks (Ethan) of Tupelo, Todd Giles of Ellerslie, Georgia, Ashley Wilson (Zack) of Tupelo, and Cassidy Barron of Tupelo; three great-grandchildren, Lesley Lundebo, Raya Wilson, and Riley Wilson, all of Tupelo; and one niece and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Robinson; parents, Paul B. Robinson and Omie Mize Robinson; brother, Jim Robinson; sister, Ruth Estes, and her husband, Roy L. Estes; one niece, Shellie Brown; and one sister-in-law, Ann McCann.
