Billy Junior “D.D.” Pounds, 65
September 14, 1960 – June 25, 2026
Mr. Billy Jr. (D.D.) Pounds, the son of Bailey and Lula Bell Pounds was born September 14, 1960, in Itawamba County, MS. He accepted Christ and became a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Plantersville, MS. He later became a devoted & faithful deacon of the church in 2024 until his health failed.
He was employed at Recline Designs/Southern Motion in Pontotoc, MS. He graduated from Fulton High School in 1980. He was a huge fan of watching sports, making people laugh, and spending time with his friends & family. He loved reading the newspaper every morning at work, and he was a huge fan of Ole Miss. Growing up, he was a “BIG BROTHER” figure to the neighborhood kids.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Malcolm (Trina) Osborne of Tupelo, MS; one stepson, Lamond Atterberry of Tupelo, MS; two stepdaughters, Shawondra Young of Tupelo, MS and Rena Atterberry of Nettleton, MS; and a host of grandchildren. One beloved sister, Nancy Pounds of Nettleton, MS; two brothers, Willie T. Pounds of Tupelo, MS and Jamie Lee Jones of Kalamazoo, MI; three nieces, Atesha (Chad) Osborn of Battle Creek, MI, Chanell McPherson and Kanika Parker all of Kalamazoo, MI; and one nephew, Bryant McPherson of Kalamazoo, MI.
He also leaves two special nieces, Brandy Pounds of Nettleton, MS and Charise McPherson of Kalamazoo, MI; two special grandchildren, Candace Williams and Emma (Marcus) Richardson all of Tupelo, MS; a special friend, Marlin Mott Shumpert of Nettleton, MS; one aunt, Mary Young of Okolona, MS; two uncles, William Pounds of Nettleton, MS and Matt Hugons of Okolona, MS; and one special cousin, Sandra K. Pickens of Okolona, MS.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bailey and Lula Bell Pounds; his wife, Johnnie Sue Atterberry Pounds; two sisters, Annie Louis Parker and Erie B. McPherson of Kalamazoo, MI; one brother, George McPherson of Kalamazoo, MI; and one nephew, Ashantee Parker of Kalamazoo, MI. DD was well loved and he will be greatly missed.
