Fourth Season of NEMCC Lady Tigers Volleyball Has Revamped Conference Schedule -

Northeast Mississippi Community College’s volleyball scheduling continues to evolve as the sport gains more-and-more traction across the state.

Local area athletes on the team are : #2 Carine Delfin & #11 Addi Vetovitz (New Albany); #6 Haley Guare & #10 Allie Kirkland (Corinth); #19 Bailey Whitlock (So. Pontotoc); @22 Eliza Whitenton (East Union); #23 Cora Kelly (Myrtle).

The Lady Tigers will drop from 16 games in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) to 10 as part of a restructured format. The move aligns volleyball with the MACCC’s other major sports such as baseball, basketball and softball. It guarantees that each school visits all campuses in the conference once every two years.

However, Northeast will meet the five northern most institutions twice with the first matchup not counting in the league standings. This preserves the annual home-and-home series with rivals Itawamba Community College and Northwest Mississippi Community College.

“We’ll approach each match the same way,” said Lady Tigers head coach Brenda Mayes. “We had a good spring and the girls are excited about getting started.”

Eleven of the 15 MACCC members now sponsor volleyball with the addition of Coahoma Community College and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Compare that to just three years ago when Northeast became only the fourth school to begin this activity.

The Lady Tigers will host 10 games inside historic Bonner Arnold Coliseum, including a doubleheader featuring Jackson State (Tenn.) Community College and Northwest Shoals (Ala.) Community College on Friday, September 25.

The home opener for Northeast will be on Wednesday, August 26 against East Central Community College. It concludes a busy seven matches in six days stretch to christen the new season for the Lady Tigers.

Northeast tussles with its archrivals over a period of three weeks in September. The Lady Tigers welcome Itawamba and Northwest for the conference match on the 16th and 23rd, respectively.

There are only two regular season tournaments on the docket for Northeast this year. The Lady Tigers will attend the Itawamba Crossover from August 21-22 and the Wallace State Fall Bash in mid-September.

Northeast has three home dates during its fall break, which runs the week of October 4-10. Jones College and Coahoma come to town for MACCC contests prior to a Saturday matinee with Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University’s junior varsity squad.

The Lady Tigers will honor their largest sophomore class yet on Monday, October 19 versus Co-Lin. Northeast’s final tune up before the postseason happens four days later at Northwest Shoals.
