Richard Monroe Hamberlin, III

December 8, 1935  –  August 2, 2026

Richard Monroe Hamberlin III retired Deputy Superintendent of Clarksdale Municipal School District, died August 2, 2026. A graveside service will be at Vista Memorial Park on Tuesday, August 4, at 11:00am. United Funeral Service is in charge. He was born December 8, 1935 to Richard Monroe Hamberlin II and Susan Butler Hamberlin in Austin, Texas.



He graduated from Neville High School in Monroe, Louisianna and attended Allen Military Academy, Army Reserve Officers Training in Bryan, Texas. He received a BA Degree from Delta State University, a MA Degree from the University of Mississippi and an Advanced Masters Degree from Delta State University.

He served as assistant coach in Rosedale and Shaw, Mississippi, head coach in Oakland, Mississippi, High School Principal in Keiser, Arkansas Attendance Center and Principal in Kossuth and Hernando, Mississippi before becoming assistant Superintendent of Clarksdale Municipal School District.

He served on the Board and became State President of Mississippi Association of School Business Officials. He served on the Board of Southeastern Association of School Business Officials and was program presenter of the National Association of School Business Officials, He was a member of the Mississippi Association of Purchasing Agents. He was a member and served as Treasurer of the Clarksdale Rotary Club, and was a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International.

He was a member of the Clarksdale Teacher Retirement System and Mississippi Retired Education Personnel and lifetime member of the Ole Miss Alumni and Delta State Alumni. He was a member of the St. Pauls’ Methodist Church where he served on the Finance Committee, Administrative Board and Sunday School Teacher of the Stoddard and Crusaders Classes in Clarksdale, Mississippi

After retirement he moved to New Albany, Mississippi to be near his son and granddaughters. He then became a member of Calvary Methodist Church, Union County Retired Education Personnel Association and Mississippi Retired Education Personnel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard M. Hamberlin II and Susan Butler Hamberlin and grandson, Richard M. Hamberlin V.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jeannette Litton Hamberlin, son Richard (Ricky) Hamberlin IV and wife Gregg of Oxford, two granddaughters, Mary Beth Grisham and husband Ryan of New Albany and Paige Tucker and husband Rob of New Albany, and six great grandchildren, Ella and Paxton Greenhill, Holden and Zadie Grisham, and Neely and Banks Tucker.

Memorial donations may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
