The festival is  three days, with the first two days reserved for students from local and other area elementary schools, students with special needs, etc. NEMiss.News attended the third day, Family and Community Day. Outside, in the Faulkner Garden, there were activities for visitors of all ages to observe and try their hand at doing things “the Old-timey way.” Local artisans and museum volunteers were making baskets, churning butter, grinding corn, blacksmithing, taking photos, doing laundry and writing with feather quills. Many of the younger visitors were especially taken with the cross-cut saw exhibit and most of them participated in egg & spoon racing, sack racing, tug-of-war battles, and more.

There was live folk music, a couuntry store, a one room school house, a doctor’s office a suttler’s tent and more to explore. There were bird houses to be built,  pumpkins to be carved, and cornhusk dolls being made.

Mother Nature provided the perfect weather for the Heritage Festival. Museum staff, volunteers and local artisans provided days filled with history, activities, education and family fun.  It was yet another home run for our amazing Union County Heritage Museum.  If you are not familiar with our local Museum, you should put a visit there on your calendar as soon as possible.
