Tuesday November 3, 2026: a Very Important Election Day for All Concerned
“We do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.” Thomas Jefferson”
Whether you identify with either the Democrat or Republican party, or are an Independent, non-affiliated voter, tomorrow is an important day for you to exercise your right to vote. The polls will open throughout Union County at 7:00 am, and will remain open until everyone who is in line at 7 pm has voted. Don’t forget to bring a valid form of identification.
Unless you have been in a stupor for the past several months, you must be aware of the significance of this mid-term election. Early voting, for all practical purposes, is over. (mail-in ballots postmarked by November 3 will be counted). If you want your voice to be heard, tomorrow is your last chance to accomplish that, on a federal level, until November 7, 2028.
Federal offices to be voted on tomorrow are : Cindy Hyde Smith’s U.S. Senate seat and Trent Kelly’s U.S. House of Representatives seat in Congressional District 1.
Judicial offices include all seven Circuit Court and Chancery Court Judges in Union County. These positions are all nonpartisan. Only the race for Circuit Court Judge, District 3, Place 2 is contested. This is the position held by the late Kelly Luther; candidates are Bart M. Adams, Shirley C. Byers and Steven Patrick Jubera. A second contested race on the ballot is for the nonpartisan Court of Appeals, Distrit 1 Position 1. Derek Dewayne Hopson, Jr. and John Weddle are vying for this position.
City School Board has one uncontested seat on the ballot.
