New Albany Fire Department (NAFD) crews were dispatched at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, to a house fire at 802 South Hillsdale.
Arriving just four minutes after the fire was reported, firemen found smoke coming from a bedroom window.

NAFD firemen entered the front door and extinguished the fire in the bedroom. The bedroom had extensive fire damage and there was smoke and heat damage throughout the structure.

Two residents of the house had minor injuries and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. The injuries were treated at the scene and there was no need to transport them to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported and the situation was brought under control in about 15 minutes.

NAFD Chief Mark Whiteside said the cause of the fire was ruled accidental. It apparently resulted from an in-wall gas heater coming into contact with some plastic.
