Senior Citizens’ Day celebrated at Fairgrounds

New Albany, Mississippi– Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said over 400 diners enjoyed the fried catfish dinner Thursday, May 19th, during Senior Citizens Day at the Union County Fairgrounds.
Among those at the Senior Citizen's Day fish fry were Tommy Smithey, a 20-year U.S. Navy veteran and veteran civilians law enforcement officer, and James Byars, formerly a multiple-term Union County Supervisor.

Those attending enjoy mild temperatures and a pleasant breeze under the Union County Arena during the annual event sponsored by the Sheriff’s Department.

The meal is served free of charge to senior citizens and other invited guests. No local tax money is used to finance the event and the meals served.
