Archie Opiela, 91

Archie Opiela, 91, of Karnes City, Texas, passed away on November 12, 2023, in Morgan City, Louisiana. He was born on December 8, 1931. Archie was a man whose warm smile illuminated every room he entered. He held a deep love for his family and had an uncanny ability to leave a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.



Archie is survived by his loving son John Opiela (Peggy Raymond), devoted daughter Leigh Opiela Grizzaffi (Leo Grizzaffi), and cherished son Joseph Opiela. He also leaves behind his beloved grandson Philip Vetrano, adored granddaughter Hayley Opiela, and precious great-granddaughter Nora Opiela. Additionally, Archie is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Onis Mitchell Opiela, dear father Peter Opiela, and beloved mother Hedwig Yosko Opiela. Archie is also remembered with love and reverence by his late siblings Sylvester Opiela, Eleanora Opiela Dupnick, Eddie Opiela, Flavia Opiela Keller, Emil Opiela, Emrick Opiela, and Mary Louise Opiela Trial.

Archie attended Karnes City High School, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors. He proudly served in the United States Marines from 1950 to 1954, earning the distinguished honor of being a double Purple Heart recipient. After his military service, Archie embarked on a successful career in offshore drilling, showcasing his dedication and expertise in the field.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Archie found solace in his favorite hobby, golf. It was on the greens where he found joy and relaxation, creating lasting memories with friends and loved ones.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation to be held on November 17, 2023, starting at 1 p.m. Following the visitation, a service celebrating Archie’s life will begin at 3 p.m. at the Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy in Mooreville. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow at Union Grove Cemetery. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Mitchell, Mike Mitchell, Danny Mitchell, Steve Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Eric Opiela, and Tom Dupnick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Mitchell, Jeffrey Mitchell, Grayson Brooks, Deacon Brooks, and Will Craddock.

Archie Opiela will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to have known him. His unwavering love, radiant personality, and kind spirit will be dearly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who hold him dear.
