Billie Hale, 89

July 11, 1934 – April 4, 2024

AUBURN – Billie Bernice Mills-Hale, 89, longtime Auburn Community resident, died at her daughter’s home in Selmer, TN, April 4, 2024 at 7:30 PM, surrounded by her family. Billie was born on July 11, 1934 in Lee County to the late Owen Mills and Madie Garrett-Mills. She was involved in basketball and softball at Auburn school and obtained her GED later in life. She was a military spouse, supporting her husband June during his 22 years in the Army, while stationed at numerous military bases in the USA and Germany. Billie was always active in her communities, wherever she lived, and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently at Eggville Church of Christ. She spent many summers at the Maywood Christian Camp as a teacher, counselor and craft director. She loved cooking, sewing, ceramics, painting, and was an avid puzzler. Billie met and married June Hale in 1952 and they enjoyed 68 loving years together.



Billie is survived by brother Bobby; son, Timothy and wife, Lori; son, Jeff; daughter, Sheila Hale Freeman and husband, Howard; grandchildren, Nathan (Kate), Ben (Larissa), Amy (Ronnie) and Kayla; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Adley, Eli, and Brody. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Madie Mills; her husband June; her siblings, Bo-Bo, Jack, and William; and her son, Phillip in 2020.

The family extends a special “Thank You” to Cassandra Wallis for her help over the past 2 years in loving service to Billie.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Monday, April 8, 2024 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo. Burial will follow in Crossroads Cemetery in the Auburn Community. Visitation will be from Noon to 2 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
