Boman seeks reelection as Union County Coroner

Union County MS Coroner Pam Boman

Pam Boman, a Democrat, is seeking reelection to the job of Union County Coroner. She has performed that job for six years. Prior to being elected coroner, she served our community for many years as an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) worker.

“As an EMS worker, I shed tears, shared memories, and built good working relationships with many state and local governmental agencies,” said Boman. “I hope to continue serving my community as professionally and courteously as I can.”

Boman has fostered good working relationships with many agencies and departments integral to performing coroner’s duties. This includes the state Department of Public Safety, the MS Hospital Association, MS Emergency Management Association (MEMA) and many other governmental and health care offices. Additionally, she works with Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), MS Bureau of Narcotics (MBN), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and even the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to complete cases. Good communication with the State Crime lab and MS Vital Statistics are also important in efficiently performing the coroner’s duties.

The long list of agencies above are but one indication of the intricacies of completing the coroner’s investigations. “Cases are not always quickly closed. In fact, many are not,” states Boman. “Cases can take 2-4 years to bring to a conclusion; they involve a lot of work and many details. Making sure that everything is done efficiently, correctly and in a timely manner for all agencies involved, as well as for the family, is not always an easy task.”

Boman’s goal for her office is to be there for the family, providing all the needed attention and care for them as respectfully as possible, while working diligently to bring cases to proper closure.

“When someone loses a family member, my deputies and I are there through every step of the process,” she says. “We answer questions, and try to address both immediate and long-term needs. I am here to support families in times of trouble. I am available at any time of the day or night, just a phone call away. Even when on vacation, I am fully responsible and will help however I can.”

Boman is the daughter of Charles G. and Martha Browning. She has three brothers, Mike, Chuck and Tony Browning, all of New Albany. She has one son, Chandler Boman, and is a member of Shady Grove Church in Pontotoc County.
