Police report catching apartment burglar in the act

New Albany police caught an alleged house burglar in the act this past Monday.

Police Chief Chris Robertson said officers received a call to the apartments on Denmill Road about 7:49 p.m.

When the officers arrived they found Jorge L. Torres, 17, of Louisville, Miss. in the apartment.

“He had gained entry and ransacked the apartment,” Robertson said. “The intent was burglary and he also did damage to the walls.”

The chief added that the suspect had had a relationship with the occupant of the apartment so it was not a random break-in.

Torres was still in custody yesterday. His bond amount was not given.
