Children mauled by dogs Thanksgiving day
Two small children were mauled by dogs in separate incidents on Thanksgiving Day in rural Union County.
Both children received treatment at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said the first incident occurred on County Road 137 about noon Thursday when a three-year-old child wandered into a neighbor’s yard. The child was reportedly attacked by two dogs and received serious injuries to the face and numerous other lacerations. The child in the CR 137 attack was airlifted to LeBonheur.
The second attack occurred near Myrtle about 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. In that instance a child four years of age was attacked by a dog chained in the yard of the child’s family home. The dog had just been fed and attacked the child, who had walked within the area the canine could reach in spite of its restraints. The child in the Myrtle incident also received injuries to the face, and is being treated at Le Bonheur
The sheriff said all the dogs involved in the attacks are in official custody.
