On Monday, November 8th, New Albany businesses will host their holiday season open house from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. This annual event, sponsored by New Albany Main Street, has become famous in the past few years, getting mentions in magazines from all over the South. Downtown merchants and restaurants will be decorated for Christmas and have sales and specials going on for a day of afternoon shopping…and Santa will be in town! They say he’s going to be hanging out at MODA for taking pictures and picking up kids’ wish lists, so be sure and stop by.

For perfect gifts for the literary-minded, there will also be three book signings in town. Katherine Hood will be at Bankhead Flowers, signing her book “Ole Miss from A to Z”.  Debra Diaz will be at In Bloom, signing copies of her “Woman of Sin” trilogy, and Joe Edd Morris will be signing “The Last page” at the Magnolia Civic Center.

There will also be refreshments, door prizes and entertainment. Bring the family out for this special event to enjoy seeing our always-pretty town dressed in its holiday finest, to enjoy the hospitality of our New Albany businesses and to find that perfect holiday gift.

THE TALLAHATCHIE RIVER PLAYERS PRESENT “IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE” AT THE CINE THEATER

This holiday classic will be presented for your holiday pleasure on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 13-15. This Christmas favorite will be performed at 7pm on Friday and Saturday nights with a 2pm matinée on Sunday.

Along with a cast made up of veterans and newcomers to TRP, Rick Robbins and Bobby White will be reprising their performances as George Bailey and Clarence Odboy, the angel. As always, the talent from the large cast brings this play to life and keeps the story alive for the generations that attend.

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Here’s an idea that will keep that spirit going and greatly improve your holiday shopping experience: Avoid the post-Thanksgiving Black Friday madness at the big box stores and save your energy and money for shopping locally on Small Business Saturday, November 28th.

Small Business Saturday is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, nestled comfortably between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Small Business Saturday was begun by American Express in 2010 as a way to draw holiday shoppers to small, local stores, and is a registered trademark of American Express.

Whatever its origins, it is an appealing idea. Who would not rather shop where people know you, have what you are looking for, have knowledge of their inventory… and even gift wrap for free!

NEW ALBANY’S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE

Santa Claus is coming to town

Santa Claus is coming to town

This year’s Christmas parade on Monday, November 30th, will be themed “A Storybook Christmas.” The grand marshal this year will be Betty King.

Because the new Tanglefoot Trail bridge over Main Street could allow for “taller” traffic, the exact route of the parade has not yet been announced.

Inquiries on entries and more information can be made by calling Evelyn Mason with the Tallahatchie River Players. Her number is 662-317-9275.

It’s a lovely time to be in New Albany. We hope that you’ll come out and support these unique events.

For more information on any of these events, or to schedule an event in New Albany, call Tourism or Downtown at 534-1047 and 534-3438, respectively.
