Coretta Lynn Cook Gregory, 57
October 9, 1968 – August 8, 2026

Coretta Lynn Cook Gregory was born on October 9, 1968 in New Albany, Mississippi to Joe Paul Cook and Irma Ruth Guyton Cook.
Coretta Lynn Cook Gregory, 57, transitioned to her heavenly home surrounded by her loving husband, family, and friends on August 8, 2026 at 6:27 PM.
Coretta gave her life to Christ at an early age. She joined Poplar (Saltillo) CME Church in March 2024 under the leadership of Pastor Patrick Head where she remained until death. While at Poplar (Saltillo) CME Church, Coretta served as an usher, Missionary Secretary, Kitchen Committee, Pastor’s Aid Committee, Annual Conference Secretary, helping with the youth, as well as helping with the outreach programs.
Coretta was a 1986 class graduate of Blue Mountain High School, a 2010 graduate of Itawamba Community College, where she received her Associates Degree in Social Work. Her work history includes the following: Manager for McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, and Wendy’s; NMRC in Fulton; cooking for Aunt M’s and Cracker Barrel; New Albany Sheriff Department; Lee County Juvenile Detention Center; Wal-Mart; Dollar General; and Arby’s. She worked for North Mississippi Medical Center in the Business Office with Patient Access in the Emergency Room for three years until her health declined.
Coretta never met a stranger and loved helping everyone that was in need. She enjoyed getting the family together for family gatherings, especially at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Coretta’s hobbies were fishing, playing softball, watching high school football games as well as college football games (Ole Miss) and NFL Football games (Green Bay Packers), NBA basketball games (Golden State Warriors), cheering competitions, and skating. She also enjoyed calling and checking on the sick and shut-in, visiting the elderly, church members, family, and friends, traveling, and shopping. Coretta also dedicated her life to, “No Child Left Behind.”
On April 9, 1988 and November 30, 1989 Coretta was blessed with two beautiful children: Channing De’Untrae Hurd and Kara Vonique Hurd, whom precedes her in death.
On June 10, 2018 she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Mr. Jerry Lawrence Gregory, Jr., whom she loved dearly.
Coretta leaves behind in loving memory: her husband, Jerry L. Gregory, Jr. of Fulton, MS; her parents, Irma Ruth Cook of New Albany, MS and Joe Paul (Patricia) Cook of Blue Mountain, MS; two daughters, Mrs. Lauren (Jarvis) Mister and Mrs. Reyanne (Darby) Gregory of Missouri; three sons, Mr. Channing De’Untrae Hurd of Booneville, MS, Mr. Jaunce Gregory of Owensville, MO, and Mr. Taurean Gregory of Eggville, GA; mother-in-law, Mrs. Dora Ann Gregory of Pontotoc, MS; seven sisters, Mrs. Constance Renee Garner and Ms. Jacqueline Guyton of New Albany, MS, Mrs. Phyllis (Christopher) Harps of Saltillo, MS, Mrs. Willeen Annette (Torey) Green of Pontotoc, MS, Mrs. Toni Ann (Antonio) Rogers of Aberdeen, MS, Mrs. Gracie (James) Isom of Blue Mountain, MS and Ms. Paula Jo Cook of Arlington, TX; two brothers, Mr. Paul Dennis (Willeen) Cook of Jacksonville, NC and Mr. Robert Edward Cook of San Diego, CA; sister-in-law, Mrs. Denita (Mirron) Pruitt of Pontotoc, MS; four granddaughters, Sara, Skylar, and Shelby Mister, and Elliana Gregory of Missouri; one grandson, Mr. Colton James of Missouri; one godson, Mr. Karter Jayce Friend of Amory, MS; three goddaughters, Ms. Semily (David) Glass of Houston, TX, Whitney (Micah) Moment and Jennifer (Rodney) Daryimple of Booneville, MS; two brothers-in-Christ, Shaune (Chenell) Holiday of Oxford, MS and Rodney (Erica) Standifer of Shannon, MS; two special nieces, Santita (Chris) Ware and Cassandra Bean of Pontotoc, MS; four special friends, Cassandra (Fred) Harvell of Rienzi, MS, Linda (Lawrence) Cameron, Stella (Bo-Rev) Berry, and Catina Carter all of New Albany, MS; fourteen nieces; nine nephews; thirteen great nieces; ten great nephews; one great-great niece; four great-great nephews; seven aunts; six uncles; church mother, Mother Barbara Young; and friends.
Coretta is preceded in death by her daughter, Kara V. Hurd; her father-in-law, Jerry L. Gregory, Sr.; brother-in-law, Kem D. Gregory; maternal and paternal grandparents; two aunts; thirteen uncles; numerous cousins; four nephews; and church father, Deacon Johnny Young.
Funeral service will be Friday, August 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Poplar CME Church, 1017 County Road 681, Saltillo, MS 38866. Viewing will be one hour before service.
