Dorothy Hare, 88

May 4, 1938  –  October 19, 2026

Plantersville – Dorothy Laverne Waddle Hare departed her earthly realm into eternal life from the NMMC Hospice Unit on Monday afternoon, October 19, 2026, after a long battle of health issues. She was 88 years old. Known by some as Dot, at her death, she represented the matriarch of 5 generations in her family and was a strong mother, a doting grandmother (known by her precious grandchildren as Nannie, Grandmother and GiGi) and a beloved friend to so many. Dorothy worked early in her life as a secretary for Bassett Furniture and retired as the Office Manager of the City Point Water System in south Lee County.

Family was most important to her. She married Wayne at age 16; he died in 1988. Born to the late Earl and Ethel Wynona Beam Waddle, her family roots were deep in Lee and Itawamba Counties. A provider for her family, Dorothy knew her role in life after Wayne’s death.

Dorothy loved the outdoors and nature. A camping enthusiast in her younger days, she had a lifelong love of hummingbirds and was always fascinated by their winter migrations. She was an avid traveler, most always with her childhood friend, Betty Jo Westmoreland and Branson, MO was among their favorite places. Dorothy led a quiet, serene life, providing and supremely loving her family and keeping her home place accommodating and in perfect order. She was a member at Palestine Baptist Church in Plantersville, MS.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel with her nephew, Bro. Jason Parker delivering the message and John A. “Pud” Holland and Pat Malone delivering personal reflections. A private burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 11AM on Wednesday and will continue to service time at 1PM. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at 1PM Wed at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Live-streaming and will be archived thereafter.
