Tommy Whitten, 84
September 28, 1942 – October 20, 2026
Hubert Thomas Whitten, affectionately known as Tommy, passed away on October 20, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Mississippi, at the age of 84.
Born on September 28, 1942, Tommy was the son of Earl Whitten, Jr. and Essie V. Roberts Whitten, both of whom preceded him in death. He lived a long and steady life marked by devotion to his family, his work, and his faith. Tommy was known as a friendly man who carried himself with kindness and humility, and he was admired by those who knew him for his easygoing nature and simple way of life.
Tommy spent more than forty years working as a truck driver before his retirement. During his career, he worked for several furniture industries in North Mississippi, where he was respected for his dependability and strong work ethic. He took pride in an honest day’s work and provided faithfully for his family through years of dedication on the road. His life reflected the values of perseverance, responsibility, and quiet strength.
Family was the center of Tommy’s life, and he loved them dearly. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherran Fitzgerald Whitten; his daughter, Tonya Whitten Goudelock; and his son, Robin Whitten and wife Ginger. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Kayla Lyons (Zach Inman), and Andrew Whitten, as well as two great-grandchildren, Aria Whitten and Wade Whitten; and his brother William Whitten (Joyce). He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Wendell Goudelock. Tommy found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they brought immense happiness to his life. His love for them was evident in the time he shared, the memories he helped create, and the gentle presence he offered to each of them.
Tommy’s family will remember him not only for the role he played in their lives, but also for the steady love and support he gave throughout the years. He was a man who valued family above all else and found his greatest contentment in the simple blessings of home and loved ones.
Tommy was a Christian and a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church before his sickness. His faith was an important part of his life, and it guided him through both good times and difficult days. He lived with a quiet trust in the Lord and carried himself with the kind of spirit that reflected his beliefs.
In his earlier years, Tommy enjoyed hunting and fishing, pastimes that gave him peace and pleasure. He appreciated the outdoors and the simple joys that came with time spent in nature. He was a simple man who lived a simple life, and that simplicity was part of what made him so special to those who knew him best. He did not seek attention or praise, but instead lived with sincerity, honesty, and a heart for the people he loved.
