Earnest Melvin “Merck” Prather, 83

September 10, 1940 – February 27, 2024

Earnest Melvin “Merck” Prather, 83, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany. He was born September 10, 1940 in Union County to Arthur and Elsie Porterfield Prather. Before retirement, he had farmed and in earlier years, he raised cattle. He loved mowing yards, collecting knives, whittling and watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke, Daniel Boone and The Rifleman. He enjoyed ice cream and Coca-Cola. He was a very loved brother and uncle; and will be missed by all who loved him.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
He is survived by a sister, Betty May Moss; a sister-in-law, Ilene Prather; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and five brothers.
